Artisan Construction began operating in 1987 as Artisan Homes. It was a small operation, with principal Doug Lowe wearing most of the hats-from project manager, to accountant, to janitor. We got our first commercial contract in 1989 as a referral from a residential customer. By 1996, we had built homes in most of the major subdivisions in Charlottesville.
