Who We Are





History

Artisan Construction began operating in 1987 as Artisan Homes. It was a small operation, with principal Doug Lowe wearing most of the hats-from project manager, to accountant, to janitor.

We got our first commercial contract in 1989 as a referral from a residential customer. By 1996, we had built homes in most of the major subdivisions in Charlottesville. Our commercial business had grown to the point that we brought in two partners to be able to keep up with the demand. That same year we reincorporated as WWL, Inc., and began doing business as Artisan Construction.

At various times over the years we've emphasized the commercial or residential side of our business, but today we find that an equal balance of the two is the best way to maintain our expertise in the broad range of construction services our clients need.

Philosophy

At Artisan Construction, return business is the core of our business. Creating a durable relationship of confidence and trust with a customer starts from the moment we first talk to you. And it doesn't end. Ever. I often say when meeting with potential clients that we "invite them to abuse us a little bit." By this I mean that we welcome the process of beginning a collaboration with them, whether we've got a signed piece of paper or not.

We pride ourselves on complete openness about process, especially about budget and schedule. If we find once we've discussed your needs that we're not right for the job or the job is not right for us, we'll tell you so. For us, the bottom line is about more than money. We don't want the job if we're not right for the job. And if we're not right for the job, we'll help you find someone that is. That's our commitment to you.
